Wedding, dance and party tips from the UK's best Swing Band

1950’s vintage glamour – Grace Kelly

Inspired by the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of  Cambridge in 2011, leading wedding industry experts predicted that we would see a return to elegance, both in wedding dresses, table decorations, flowers, jewellery and music. And how right they were – the vintage look is back and so too are vintage wedding music bands!

This year, according to the top bridal magazines the biggest dress trends are likely to be an abundance of lace, reminiscent of a time when brides like Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor all wore dresses that symbolised glamour and decadence.  The music to accompany such glamour is also from the same era – swing and rat pack music.

The great thing about vintage is it never dates and neither does the music!

Retro and Vintage Wedding Swing Bands

Vintage wedding music bands are so on trend. The style of the 20’s, 30’s 40’s and 50s is roaring back into popular culture and the repertoire couldn’t be more romantic. Think Charleston, Fred & Ginger, Glenn Miller, Swinging Sinatra.

For weddings that require something vintage inspired, but still routed in the here and now, a swing band is a fabulous choice.  Simply Swing will play music from the golden swing era but with a modern twist (think Michael Buble) followed by some classic pop given the swing treatment such as “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.  All in all, making an up to date vintage party for the 21st century Bride & Groom.

Vintage Wedding Music Bands

Vintage Wedding Swing Band

Our Rat Pack singer and band are as popular as ever for a vintage inspired weddings.  This timeless entertainment option will appeal to wedding guests of all ages, with a repertoire of  familiar and well loved songs by of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin.

Given our high level of swing band enquiries so far this year we know vintage glamour is back. We expect to be performing at more formal wedding receptions with the band’s dress code being mostly black tie and cocktail dresses and perhaps more themed weddings such as Great Gatsby. It follows then that this year’s wedding first dances will be selected from the Great American Songbook from composers such as Gershwin, Porter and Berlin.
